Values on the Theory of Neoliberalism (part 4 from 4)

As an ideology, neoliberalism requires legitimacy from the world community. Ideology can be embedded with powerful when it can affect the state, the media, educational, social, professional associations and various other aspects of life in society. Public opinion need to be established so that public support neoliberalism and neoliberal practices can be run smoothly. One effort to understand is done through the political aspects. The first step is to propagate through the political parties, and eventually take over state power (Harvey, 2005: 40).
The form of neoliberalism that has to be adopted by the government include:
1.       Deregulation and de-bureaucratization that makes government intervention in the economy reduced
2.       Privatization and removal of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).
3.       Reduction and elimination of government assistance programs and tax (Deliarnov. 2006: 175).
The concept of neoliberalism seeks implanted through the effort to get right in government institutions. Authority can be obtained through access to policy-making, legal framework, governance, market mechanisms, as well as democratic participation. This process often ignores the real sector, investment, and development of direct production (Craig, Porter, 2006: 14).
The core idea of doctrine neoliberalism stated that "democracy is the best political system and free market economy is the best economic system". Free market economy and the absence of state interference are considered as the main basis for real democracy to neo-liberal (Friedman, 2003: 2-3). However, the concept of neoliberalism is not entirely consistent with democracy. Neoliberalism sees democracy as a threat that can limit individual freedom. Democracy is considered to serve as a representation of the middle class in order to create political stability. Democracy concept explains that political stability with a wide range of policies and regulations based on the rule of the people. It is considered neoliberal potentially suppress the right of individual freedom (Harvey, 2005: 66).

Although not consistent, neoliberal still pretend to appreciate the concept of democracy. People are left hoping expect economic benefits from the policies of their chosen leader. Real political power structure are formed in the interest of the capital market, the power of corporations, unions, special interest groups, fund political campaigns, and influence in the making of legislation. Those things are summed up in the use of democracy. Survival of democracy is run as a ritual. Government would be more accountable to the interests of the people of this comparison. The concept of democracy leads to the formation of the state as a corporation without regard to the interests of the public (Friedman, 2003: 4). Democracy provides a framework of thinking to form a political institution. Not required street violence. The new institution can be formed by adjusting the old concept with a new design of economic development (Friedman, 2003: 154).
In the social aspect, neoliberalism change the way people's lives become individualistic. Communities can turn into consumption and narcissistic. Society upholds the freedom of individuals and multiculturalism. This ideology could influence up to the corporate culture, business, market system, the public system stability, lifestyle, fashion, cultural expressions and practices. Neoliberalism became a political identity that guarantees the capitalist and liberal concept (Harvey, 2005: 41).
